Jacques Chevalier was born in Rouen on September 30, 1924.
He entered the Beaux-Arts in 1937, but quickly left the official education.
Influenced by Georges Rouault, he exhibited, for the first time, in Paris, in 1948, at the foci of Culture (155 Boulevard Haussmann) .- After having practiced various trades, he chose from 1952 to devote himself exclusively to painting.
The artist visits the famous painter and sculptor, Georges Braque, in 1953. The rest of his work is then marked by this meeting.
Then, in April 1954, Jacques Chevalier exposes again in the capital but this time at the Tronche Gallery, rue Percière, and moved to Paris the same year. He finds in painting a constant and vital need of expression. In October 1955, he received a very good criticism during his exhibition at the Duncan Gallery (rue de Seine), but only exhibited again ten years later at the Galerie Gérard Mourgue.
Jacques Chevalier paints at once Morvan landscapes and abstract compositions, his painting is always an act of plastic creation and not imitation.
The colors are posed by square keys and play with each other in the manner of a stained glass constituting a colorful blend of shades hot and cold.
To give it more shine, it is sometimes coated with a layer of shiny varnish.
The artist loves the material, its paste is thick and rich nuances.
All his work translated his desire for harmony, his dynamism and his lyricism.
