The gallery is pleased to participate in this exhibition, entrusting four works of the artist on the occasion of this first retrospective dedicated to the work of Willy Anthoons.  A contemporary of Idel Ianchelevici, with whom he exhibited at the Tendances contemporaines salon in La Louvière, Willy Anthoons (1911-1982) was a major Belgian avant-garde artist. Co-founder of the Young Belgian Painting, in which he is the only representative of the sculpture, close to Michel Seuphor or Ossip Zadkine, Willy Anthoons provokes today only a weak echo among the public. An artist remarkable for the constancy of his research, the strength of his language and the coherence of his multi-faceted work, Anthoons takes advantage of the overcoming of the rules and conventions of abstraction of the time to translate a very personal lyricism, imbued with universality and mysticism.
